No, I Am Not Dead!

Posted in Unspecified
At least not as far as I know. There has been a lot going on at my day job (some really late nights, only made possible by chugging Diet Dr. Pepper and eating Honey Maid Graham Sticks) and many clients who apparently really need cheap merchandise designed for them. I have also been deciding how I want to attack Comicon 2007. Do I need a booth? A table even? Do I stay mobile and hoof my way around toting books and swag to bribe industry high ups? Rocket Dreams is starting to gain momentum, and I just want to point my skis at the right slope... and the Con is a mighty big ski resort. Bear with me, and I promise to have more cool art very soon.

Built To Serve

Whew. Back to posting art. I sketched this guy out during some of my robot design exploration for the Rocket Dreams story. I want everything to have a futuristic, yet antique vibe to it in this story. It sounds odd, I know... but I have a vision! And yes, I have yet to finish the story so I need to get back to that soon before I take the design much further. I hope to have the VanhoozerStudios portion of the site up by... Sunday. I think.

The Studio Takes Shape

Posted in Unspecified
Ok, I know. I am not supposed to post twice without art. Well, I have been really busy over the last few days putting my studio together. I bought a new drafting table, and I am looking for my lamps and chair now. I am on the hunt for a new scanner. Gearing up for many late nights at my table, drawing crazy scenes or rockets and robots. My chair is posing a big challenge, since I know my butt will be in it quite a bit. Lumbar support. It's all about lumbar support. The good news is, once I get the table up and running, the drawings should start to pick up again. Also, the Vanhoozer Studios portion of my website is nearing completion. That is a good thing. So, hang in there.

A Post With No Art... EGAD!

Posted in Unspecified
I know, I know. What am I if not an art poster, eh? Well, at this point, I am a writer. Sitting here, attempting to put sentences together in a fashion people might find appealing. It's hard for me not to start doodling, but for now I really need to bang out some of the more detailed story for Rocket Dreams. I tend to picture many things without figuring out the needed detail, so it will help me greatly to actually sit down and think these things through. Dwight, as the main character, is a little boy around 10 years old. Some of his mannerisms and a lot of his thought process comes from watching my own son. Certain things are so "matter of fact" to us adults, but to a child every activity can turn into an awesome journey. Cleaning your room? Maybe your toys come alive and help. Making a sandwich? Perhaps the bread is an airplane that "lands" in the peanut butter. As we grow older I think some of the fun leaves our daily routine. Man, I am trying to hang on to my fun! Tune in next time when I discuss the topic: Life Balance. Does it exist?

Lots of Doodling

Posted in Unspecified
One of the best things about starting my story development, is all of the drawing that I suddenly get to do. There is a lot to draw! Characters, locations, props, etc. I love it all, but it has really hit me how much work it actually is. And how quickly I need to learn how to draw! Starting soon, I will be posting a lot of the work on the RD website, as well as bits and pieces here on the blog. I am also working to build the "Vanhoozer Studios" portion of my website. Then starting next week, I take a break from drawing and finalize my story. Lots of writing. So, stay tuned. Lots more coming down the pike.

A Blog Makeover

Posted in Unspecified
Well, I am very tired, but happy to announce that my mission has started. My web site (www.jeremyvanhoozer.com, see the link on the right) has launched with a new goal. To bring everyone along on my journey to create my first graphic novel. That's right, I am silly enough to try my hand at completing a graphic novel by Comicon 2007. "Rocket Dreams" is a story that I have been kicking around for a while, and I am now going to stop kicking it around and start getting to work. The site is pretty bare right now, but over the next year, it will become loaded with art and story. This blog will be my way of sharing all of the doodles, sketches, ideas, and frustrations along the way. So, I consider this a "turning of the page" for me, and my first step to fulfilling a dream. I hope you will come along!

The King Is Senile

As usual... fast but fun.I picture this guy, who thinks he is Elvis. He's around 80 years old, and he lives in an old folks home. He is also a rather crotchety bastard. And he wants his samitch.

Description
My name is Jeremy, and I like to draw things. I am desperately trying to continue my growth as an artist, while staying firmly entrenched in the corporate art machine. Is that possible? I don't know yet. I am married to an amazing woman, and have two incredible sons. I call Orlando Florida my home.
