Mini Step By Step

Posted in Unspecified

I thought I would show how I went about doing a piece for a bi-weekly drawing thingie. It started out on a post it as an idea. A rather sparatic un-planned idea. The theme was "Arthurian Legend" so as you can see I was stretching it. My thought was "Kid imagining that he is King Arthur and fighting the dreaded Rhino Warriors." Purple Rhino Warriors.
Next I scan the sketch into Photoshop, and ink in colored lines on a layer. This is not the greatest example of a good drawing, but it does show me having some fun.
I then put some flat color behind the ink layer. On this I was trying to go for a "kid's imagination" theme.

Finally I add some rough pastel like shading on the characters on yet another layer. I left this really loose, and it shows. Like I said, not the best drawing, but a look at the process from sketch to final.
In the end, this composition didn't work as well as i had hoped, but I decided to quickly and loosely interpret my idea, and I left it at that. Maybe I will post a more detailed how to of a future work...
