12/14/2008 - LIFE Rolling on
so I made my way back again. Well I'm posting something at least. I looked through the images on the board today and was sadly excited by what I saw. Awesome work very nice paint and pencil work.... I opened my sketch book the other day, and did some doodles... actually it was my second time in the last month or so. Not much finished work coming out of my 20-30 minutes of actual drawing this last month.. :P
I have also set a dead line for myself to update my website by the end of the year, if I can't even do that then I have decided I should not renew it come January.... But again not how I said should... I should be saying WILL but it appears I have very little of that magic WILL.
goodnight if you should read this.

7/8/2008 - Found what once was lost or at least forgotten
So, I stumbled back here, to the drawing board and eventually to the blog.... I wasn't sure if it would be worth it, but I spent the last couple of nights deleting the 400 or so spam replies that got littered on my less then 17 entries here... It was sad, I was so excited when I signed in that first day and saw that I had like 400+ comments! I was like what! No way!... and it was a great big hose job, spam bots spamming stupid stuff...
The replies where 2 years old now. I finally got rid of them. Now what. Am I going to start posting here again? After all these years. I've become so stagnant. So old, so tired, sad and defeated. Most of the people I used to come to the forum to read about and get excited by are gone elsewhere, those that I enjoyed banter with and a kind of friendship through the stories they told are also gone... moved on, moved away to some other activities, some gave up on the art that once came here to improve, having seen their limits and deciding not to work and push beyond them for other persuits.
is that my fate...

11/2/2006 - Inking excercises...
Ok, I said I'd post some inking so here it is. I just wanted to try my PITT brush pen, I liked the feel of it, I liked how it worked to fill in my black areas, I didn't like the lack of point/control. I couldn't get a consistent fine line with it, or any good feathering, maybe more practice, maybe I'll just use a crow quil... . I'll put up something else later.

I only used a straight edge on one line... I think it shows.

10/30/2006 - Halloween Time!
Well, its halloween this week, and we made some jack-o-lanterns as is our tradition. We really don't have many for halloween, since I didn't know about it until I moved to Canada at about 7. Any way designs from left to right, by myself, Boo(9yr old daughter), and G-man(6yr old son).

The kids really enjoy designing their jack-o-lanterns but g-man really wants to start carving his own!
We went to the Rec-center where they showed "the wizard of oz" and had a costume contest; which both the kids took part in. Boo won third place and G-man was very upset, until mom and dad gave him our candie treat bags which added to the two treat bags that he got for dressing up turned into a big pile.
Other then that things have been busy at work, crazy at home and I haven't done much drawing/painting/etcha-sketching or anything, but I've printed out some blue comic pages to try and practice some inking... maybe I'll be able to do some of that... and It couldn't hurt I don't think.

7/20/2006 - Practicing with my tablet/OC sketching
Ok, here are a few sketches done in OpenCanvas. I've been trying to get back in the practice of using my tablet... its been collecting dust for quite a while now. I also need to get bussy with my sketch book, I want to try and sketch some stuff up and post this weekend... but I've been busy with the nine2five and though I've had lots of desire to get sketching I've not made enough time to actually accomplish any... I'm bad I know.
I've seen lots of jobs posted asking for freelance illos, and they would have been right up my alley if I'd just kept up after high school.. all the rpg stuff I used to do would have just fit right in, but now I have to go back and start from almost the begining... if you don't use it, it doesn't get better I tell ya.
I'm practicing again and that's all that is important now.
Here's what i did today. (the character belongs to someone else, he did the full body on the left)

and here's one for the independents jam.

I did the blonde guy first... he looks a little rougher then the andriod girl.
Hopefully I can keep these up and we can all start to see an improvement... wouldn't that be nice.

7/2/2006 - Its my birthday...
I've had a niceish day. I went to work this morning for about 4 hours, bad. Went out to get a present from my kids, it wasn't avialble yet, bad. Had a nice lunch, then a nap! good. Didn't get to go to the movies to watch cars before dinner, ok/postponed. Had a nice dinner with friends, good. Went with friends to watch fireworks by the lake, it rained, fireworks canceled-bad. For all the crazyness of the day, kids fighting over the paper fans they where given during a parade the watched, it ended a nice day.
Sometimes you think a birthday should be special, something out of the ordinary but that doesn't always make things better sometimes just a nice day is enough.
Happy Canada Day and if your lucky enough (like me) happy birthday.

9/30/2005 - Happiness is a warm logo.....
Happy news.
I've been stressing the last two weeks, studying for a professional cert. that I wanted to get for work/personal reasons. I GOT IT!!! I am now a certified SolidWorks professional. SMoookin!
It may seem like just a mouth full of bs, and fancy bit of paper to stick on my wall (oh, ya it's going up baby!) but I also get to put it on my business cards! I get all the official licensed SolidWorks logo's that say I am a certified professional. The test only took like 8 1/2 hours, and then another hour to get the results in and back...(there may have been some after test q/a bsing that slowed the results)

Check it out. Cool isn't it.
I am soooo pleased with myself, but tired to many late nights and early mornings. I've got to go but a bike together now. Bye.

9/20/2005 - A new book to get the creative juices flowing

I went to the library and found this book, The Art of Pencil Drawing by Ernest W Watson. It's really good; full off excellent pencil drawings by the author/artist. I'm actually quite surprised not to have come across his work sooner. I hope to be able to use this as a starting point to help me get drawing again. Hopefully I can make more time for it; things have been kind of crazy with way to many things going on at the same time.

8/18/2005 - The wet light fixture...

Well this weekend we went to the new ikea that opened up near us, it was a zoo. The first lady into the place had been camped out there for 3 or 4 weeks... ikea gave a gift card 3000 dollars i think; and the next 100 people got a free chair.
Any way it was way to crazy to believe. I mean when I lived near Toronto, we went to that one a couple times, hell I love browsing through there. Where did all these wacko's come from? The closest other ikea is in Houston, like 4 hours drive away! I can't believe all those people had lived in Houston before moving to Dallas and went wacko when the new store to opened. Then again, I was pretty excited about it opening....
On to what we or I did. My wife wanted a new lamp for our hallway so we picked this one
Its kinda of cool and the light is good. Any way, there's no fixture in the ceiling the hall light is mounted on the wall. So I remove the old light, figure out where the wire go (up to the attic luckly) and I locate where to put the new light. Excellent, everything is coming together flaulessly! Then I call for help to check that I've traced the right wire up to the attic.
"Yes, the wire is moving." My wife calls up as I pull on the wire from the attic.
"All right!" I say.
"Get down here there's water shooting out of the water heater!"
"sh*t," I say "Hold on! I'm coming down!"
So it was that I fought the hot water squirting monster, socking 12 towels and myself in the process. 2 hours, 2 trips to wal-mart (this was between10:00-11:00 on a sunday night) and a whole lot of stress later. The water heater closet and all the connections where bone dry and the shower I needed, badly. What a long night that was. On the bright side, the new light looks great and really brightens up the hallway and when I open the door the water closet too.

8/2/2005 - Why he can't sleep...
Nightmares...
Last night my 4 year old had an anxiety attack and couldn't sleep alone. What would a 4 year have to keep him from sleeping? Well a woman, a faceless woman in a black car that hit him with the mirror at 30-40 mph. This happened about 3 months ago, we were walking across the street together, I was walking behind him maybe 4 ft behind him, he was holding his Moms hand, and I was holding our daughters hand. Boys on the left girls on the right, we got about 3/4 of the way across the road when a car went by, with the green light, us with the walk signal starting to flash don't walk. Somehow this black car came into the cross walk, I still don't understand how it missed me, and my son spun around holding his Moms hand with a loud crashing sound. Like a truck running over a milk crate. He managed to say "It hurts" before totally lossing control and crying nonstop. I looked and saw a side view mirror in the crosswalk that wasn't there before. I scooped him up and cleared the intersection... My wife and daughter still didn't understand what had happened. It took a little while to explain it and keep them calm.
He stopped crying when the firetruck pulled up. I'd have to say it was a miracle, because he didn't get more then a bump on the back of his head. We spent that weekend with him sleeping with in our bed; then about a week with him on his nap mat beside our bed. He'd been fine since our trip to Canada, but yesterday the DA called me and told me what this woman is facing and what she's trying to plea bargain down to. My wife and I talked about it with our kids over dinner, a bad move I guess. He wanted Mommy because she makes his bad dreams go away.
I've been needing to go through this again, to tell the story again to try and get it out of me. It's just hard sometimes

8/2/2005 - The National Gallery of Canada @ Ottawa!!!!
National Gallery Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and the Renaissance in Florence:
Now, I was excited to see Leo's and Mike's work, boy was I disappointed not by their work but by the quantity of it. Lets see if I can recall Leo 3 sketches, Mikey 2.... Very disappointing. It wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't bill it like a LOOK what Leo and Mike did! Come see it here!!!! If they had made it more Renaissance then you walk in and find a couple of sketches from Leo and Mikey I would have been very pleasently surprised. As it was I felt somewhat let down. Not that all the other ren artist there sucked, many on display were students of Leo and Mikey. Any way it was really good, but the billing was somewhat missleading. Oh ya and they have that giant baby head there too, I've got a pic of the kids infront of it I'll post it when I develope the film.
EDit; added the baby head on the 18th look up there.

8/2/2005 - My summer vacation
Vacation:
I drove the family to Canada this summer, from Dallas to Oshawa, ON (Torontonians may know where that is or google it.), to attend my sisters wedding in Hull and of course visit everyone we could. We left June 28 and returned on July 16, it took us 2.5 days to drive up and a little longer to drive back. It was a whirl wind of crazy visits and activity, after the wedding we went to Ottawa. We saw the Parlement buildings did some shopping and then hit the National Gallery for Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and the Renaissance in Florence.

8/2/2005 - Back from the road.
Well I'm back and can look into starting this thing up for real. I probably should have just waited until after my vacation to start but I wasn't sure when I'd remember to come back and look at this.
(I'll try and use paragraphs/headings to make this easy to read I may go off on a tangent.)
Ok I started typing and couldn't stop... so I'll split this into seperate entries
