9/1/2006 - Composition

Okay here are three different compositions for the Family Tree. In A I was going with teh idea of the "original" five on a different main branch from Peggy and I. This really weighs the left (stage left, ie your left) side of the piece. In B I went with an back and forth by age starting with Ann and Larry in the middle. C is the same concept as B except I've put the children in the same frame as their parents. That declutters the piece but will make for a harder time composing the individual families. So let me know which one you guys prefer. The background colors were just quickly thrown in to give you an idea and are not final by any means. Also do you guys see the the portraits being like a Sears portrait or floating heads. Floating heads would be easier and give it more of a 50's illustration fair, but I'm not sure that would really work. So just let me know in the comments section. I like B, although cluttered it gives the affect of the family tree sprouting new branches. And isn't that the purpose of it?

I still prefer \"A\" but it is TOO asymetrical now. and too crowded. I know you are trying to give the portraits as big a space as possible, but the background needs more breathing room.

<br>fool around with the branch placement more, and it\'ll work. (oh and indiviaul portraits, just busts)

I think I like B the best. The idea behind A is neat but the tree looks like it will fall down. Will there be room for my guinea pigs?

I liked the idea of the second branching for the second group of kids, but you are correct it looks unbalanced. I like B the best. It gives the grandchildren their own spaces.

I've been having touble getting on...my computer was freezing. I like "B" best for the reasons others have said. But the idea of the two little kids and their families is good if you can get more balance. And I love what you did for Liz. But I thought I'd get a bust like that other guy recommended. I've always wanted one! Peg looks good but Dan needs work. From your godmother.
