9/6/2005 - IF Roots

I missed the past few Illustration Friday topics because of being too busy, but the during the extended weekend I found lots of time for art. This weeks topic was roots, so I again decided to return to my own and bust out the paint supplies. I thinks its a lot more successful than my previous attempts, but I'm still struggling. I re-painted the background 3 times and I'm still not happy with. And to give the topic a double meaning, he's a roots rocker whom my children have affectionatly named Stinky Man.
Also if you've got the time Steve Lambe has a new blog titled Lambey's Log. I've been a big fan of Steve's work since discovering him on the Drawing Board. I totally recommend paying him a visit.
I also plan to post some more art from this weekend and posibly doing a digital version of Stinky Man so "Yall come back now, ya hear!"

I like "Stinky Man"! I think the roughness of the paint really goes well with your subject, and I rather like the background. It sort twangs along with his instrument. Of course I have no idea what you had in mind, but the whole thing holds together in terms of the interpreation and the medium. It's definitely "rootsy."

Swing yer partner just like so
Wind that jug and let 'er blow
Grab the washboard take a seat
Just be sure to have bare feet
We'll stomp around and make some noise
An give bowl cuts to all the boys
Wear unkempt teeth I do bequeath
For thems the redneck joys

Paintmonster - Thanks Marty, I'm glad you found and like my blog.
Carla - I originally had in mind a cabin interior for the background, which then became an outdoor scene, which eventually developed into the abstract textures you see. Thanks for your comments.
Arvis - Thank you.
Cheezykat - You honor me with one of your poems. You turn a phrase so well!
Lambey - You are most welcome, your work has been a huge insperation for me the past few years.
Courtny - If you can hear his music, it might be time to start running! :) Thanks for your comments.
Drazen - Thanks!
Popdenial - Thank you aswell for the comments.
I really liked doing this character so don't be suprized to see him poping up in the future.
